Design: The composition, with its emphasis on grace and beauty, reveals the influence of the Pre-Raphaelite movement in fine art in England during the late 19th century.

Painters of this school idealized the classical themes of the early Renaissance.

A trinity of haloes (as in a church stained-glass window) appear round the heads of the saintly young ladies who are playing their twin-fluted pipes of Pan.
