Corporate background:
Fonotipia was founded in 1903 in Milan,
Italy.
|
Design: A
lovely example of the Art Nouveau fashion, which began in the
1890s and quickly spread worldwide, thanks to the proliferation
of print media.
The lower border typifies the style’s
flowing, organic lines, reflected in the curvy lettering either
side of the centre hole.
The image in the upper panel shows a winged
angel with a lyre in one hand while operating a screw-driven
press with the other, from which records come cascading down.
The first line of the imprinting
('Serenata') is set in a rather worn font called 'Grecian,'
which first appeared around 1876.
