Corporate background:
Manufactured by Leeds & Catlin, a rogue
manufacturer of records between 1902 and 1909, who were finally
forced out of business by Columbia.
This beautiful Imperial label was
introduced in 1904 as a replacement for the equally spectacular
Leeds label, which was blind-embossed in gold-coloured metal.
The 1924 Imperial Record from
England used a line illustration of the same image, printed in
single colour.
|
Design: Purple
and gold are associated with royalty.
The label name, its baseline on a steep
arc, is set in a style as rich and luxurious as the
gold-fringed cape forming the backdrop.
