Design: The stylized interlaced border provides the visual effect of a warrior's shield. This unusual label was gold foil-stamped on red leatherette, not printed on paper.
History: The military band featured on this record evidently made several recordings for Edison in Berlin in 1905. "Kaiser Franz" refers to Franz Josef (1830-1916) who in 1867 was crowned king of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Soon after the June 1914 assassination of his heir, the arch-duke Franz Ferdinand, the world was plunged into war.
