Corporate background:
Argentinian collector Martín Javier Gorosito, who supplied this image, writes: “Atlanta
Records was founded in 1913 by Alfredo Améndola.
“The recordings issued on this label
were ostensibly made in Buenos Aires and pressed in Germany,
though it is quite possible he obtained some masters from other
labels.”
The reason for the choice of the name
‘Atlanta’ is unknown (in Greek mythology, Atlanta,
daughter of a king, was a fierce huntress who is alleged by
some to have sailed with Jason and the Argonauts).

Design: The
image of a Greek Muse (one of the nine talented daughters of
Zeus, king of the pantheon of gods), gazing over placid waters,
has much in common with the contemporary Beka, Era and Odeon labels.
The scenario, illuminated by pale
moonlight, is difficult to interpret, for though the Muse is
dressed for southern climes, there are snow-capped peaks
in the distance.
The large vessel in mid-distance, its
lights reflected in the dead-calm water, is apparently
travelling under steam, while the smaller vessels are under
full sail.
Note the unusual Art-Deco-style linear
shading behind the letters of the label name.
