Corporate background:
The vertical-cut Lyric label was launched
in 1917, but like many other manufacturers, Lyraphone switched
to the lateral-cut process in 1919.
|
Design: A
pair of white-robed maidens (symbolizing purity), draped with
colourful sashes, stand in front of a pair of classical
columns.
The pleasing incense of their musical
offerings of song (by way of a scroll) and music (a lyre) waft
heavenward.
Above, seated on clouds either side of the
corporate logo and joining in the music-making, are a pair of
winged baby angels (symbolic of heavenly love).
The subtle shading, including the
peach-coloured centre panel, was achieved by means of
hand-stippled dots.
