Pelican-Record (England) / c. 1913

Corporate background:
One of many pre-WWI labels made in Germany (‘Prussia’) for the British market, and which did not survive beyond the outbreak of hostilities.

Label scan courtesy of UK music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt, who notes that this label drew its masters from Edison Bell, Jumbo and elsewhere.
Design: A rather uninspired design but featuring some stylish and trendy lettering for the label name, in the Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) fashion.

The stiff-angled ornament also appears on other German-made labels such as Albion, Invicta and Era.
