‘The Leader’ Record (England) / c. 1913
the.leader.record.gif
Corporate background:
A German-made pre-WWI label sold door-to-door on the hire-purchase system (like Britannic and John Bull).

Label scan courtesy of UK music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt.
Design: An archetypal wild-haired conductor (leader?) energetically directs affairs behind a pair of overlapped scrolls, one of which has blobby-ended fishtails.

The lettering style for the label name is based on that commonly used in copperplate engraving, and thus bears the name ‘copperplate gothic.’
