Corporate background:
Evidently a descendant of the pre-WWI
Jumbo-Record label, but this one seems to have been printed in
England, as the quality of the presswork is inferior to the
earlier German-printed label.
Label scan courtesy of UK music researcher
and collector Bill Dean-Myatt.
|
Design: Closely
based on the pre-WWI Jumbo-Record label, with the figure of Venus replacing
the elephant directly above the spindle-hole.
The redrawn label name lettering even
retains the distinctive ‘hook’ on the main stem of
the cap R.
The typeface used for the imprinting of the
song (‘Maxina’), is known as Engravers, and was
meant to mimic the style often used by copper-plate engravers
on bank-notes and the like.
It was available in caps and small caps
only, as was the smaller font to be seen at the foot,
Copperplate Gothic.
