Corporate background:
Label scan courtesy of UK music researcher
and collector Bill Dean-Myatt, who notes: “This is Winner, not
Edison Bell Winner. They used masters from Gennett, Paramount,
Broadway and Banner, but most of the records are from their own
masters.”
|
Design: A
lithographic picture of a race meeting, with great detail even
in the background, showing a grandstand with a flag fluttering
above excited spectators.
The horse, though masterfully modelled, is
shown in a rather old-fashioned ‘rocking-horse’
stance.
The jockey, who wears the red cross of
England’s patron St. George, leans forward to ensure the
record he carries passes the finishing post first, as a
top-hatted judge looks on.
Format- and treatment-wise, the label bears
a strong resemblance to the contemporary German-made Parlophon label.
