Extraphone (Tsarist Russia) / c. 1911

back next

Design: In this classical/romantic scene, a young woman dressed in a Greek-style gown (Terpsichore, one of the nine Muses?) sits in a beautiful garden by the sea at sunset, playing a lyre (compare with the Atlanta and Era labels). The delicate pink rose-flowered border is rarely seen (compare with the Lyric label) and is very beautifully done, contrasting well with the bold label name.

History: According to russian-records.com, this company was founded in 1909 in the city of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Label scan courtesy of UK collector Bill Dean-Myatt.
