Corporate background:
Founded in 1921 as a cheaply-priced label,
Cameo eventually merged with Pathé and then Regal to
form the American Record Corporation.
The label name was discontinued in 1931.
|
Design: The
cameo at the top has been redrawn and now faces the opposite
direction; the woman’s head is more in the classical
Greek style, and wears a laurel garland.
The vertical red lines have been dropped,
obviating the need for a panel around the main line of
lettering.
The choice of the masculine, angular Gothic
lettering is questionable since it is not very readable when
given a white release, and is rather heavy compared to the
delicacy of the rest of the design.
