Champion (U.S.A.) / 1931

Corporate background:
Launched by Gennett in 1925 as a cheaply-priced subsidiary label, Champion survived until 1934.

The ‘Electrograph’ designation was added in 1927, after Gennett had overcome early teething troubles with its own version of electric recording technology.
Design: As in the Gennett parent label, a contrast can be seen between the bold, masculine, vertically-oriented Gothic font of the label name and the delicate, feminine, curvilinear border design.

Note the similarity of treatment to the Superior label, also a Gennett product.
