Corporate background:
According to Argentinian collector Martín Javier Gorosito, who supplied this image, the Disco Electra label
was founded by Alfredo Améndola in 1922, and lasted
approximately until 1931.
This first version of the label remained
unchanged until 1926.
|
Design: The song
title, ‘La Yava,’ is set in a wide slab-serif font
(c. 1880), which contrasts with the condensed lettering in the
upper segment.
The banner containing the words
‘Orquesta Yribarren’ is realistic-looking, while
the three stripes either side of the over-arching label name
represent the same device treated in a stylized, abstract
manner.
(Compare with the Phono-Cut and Victoria labels,
which also show realistic banners; those on the Princess and Gath & Chaves labels are more stylized).
