Disco Nacional (Argentina) / c. 1920

Corporate background:
Founded by Jewish-Austro-Argentinian entrepreneur Max Glücksmann.

Label scan courtesy of Argentinian collector Martín Javier Gorosito, who notes that this design, in use from 1920 to 1923, featured a lilac-coloured label (as here) for classical music, and red for popular music.
Design: What look like the rays of the rising sun, a popular graphic image during the 1920s (perhaps as a reaction to the ending of WWI and hope for the dawning of a new era) form the backdrop to the label name, which has been contained within a panel for legibility’s sake.

The rather odd-looking strap across the centre can also be seen on the previous label.

Of particular interest is the gorgeous letterpress typeface used for the imprinting of the song title (‘Barbieri di Siviglia’), a bold, condensed, blobby-serifed Art Nouveau font that would have been issued between c. 1896 and 1906.
