Corporate background:
Founded by Jewish-Austro-Argentinian
entrepreneur Max Glücksmann.
Label scan courtesy of Argentinian
collector Martín Javier
Gorosito, who notes that this
design, in use from 1920 to 1923, featured a lilac-coloured
label (as here) for classical music, and red for popular music.
|
Design: What
look like the rays of the rising sun, a popular graphic image
during the 1920s (perhaps as a reaction to the ending of WWI
and hope for the dawning of a new era) form the backdrop to the
label name, which has been contained within a panel for
legibility’s sake.
Of particular interest is the gorgeous
letterpress typeface used for the imprinting of the song title
(‘Barbieri di Siviglia’), a bold, condensed,
blobby-serifed Art Nouveau font that would have been issued
between c. 1896 and 1906.
