Domino (U.S.A.) / c. 1927

back next

Design: The style of clown's costume at the top, known as 'Domino,' is often used for fancy dress balls in France (thanks to Fred Turgis for info). It appears in negative fashion because of the effect of printing a light colour on a dark background. Note the delicate floral outer border, reminiscent of the decoration to be seen on gypsy caravans.

History: Launched in 1924, the Domino label lasted until 1933.
