Design: An angel in the starry heavens, blowing a trumpet (perhaps one of the announcing angels from the biblical Book of Revelation?) surrounded by a heavy Greek-patterned border and couched in a wreath of laurel leaves, makes for a powerful image, though leaving the area for imprinting somewhat cramped.
History: Gamages, one of central London's great, iconic retail stores, founded in 1878, closed its doors in 1972. Label scan courtesy of the 'dean' of UK collectors, musicologist Bill Dean-Myatt, who notes that this label used masters from the catalogues of the Pathé, Vocalion and Homocord companies.
