Corporate background:
Label scan courtesy of UK music researcher
and collector Bill Dean-Myatt, who notes that this label was pressed by
Decca using master recordings from the Panachord and Winner
catalogues.
|
Design: The
label name, in a jaunty sans serif, follows the outer curve, a
somewhat old-fashioned format, but the reversed upper panel is
visually strong and well-arranged.
The key motif, placed with the down side
up, and facing left rather than the more usual right, shows for
its handle a Gothic capital ‘S’ which now appears
to be laying on its side (referring to either Selfridges, the
department store, or Christopher Stone, presumably an
authoritative figure at the time).
The royalty stamp is now pre-printed on the
label rather than being affixed as a separate item.
