Lucky (Japan) / c. 1937

Design: A completely different design approach to the previous label, following the horizontally-striped style of other Columbia releases, or of other subsidiaries such as Regal Zonophone; its red, blue and gold printing make it a more expensive production.

History: Produced by Columbia, the pre-WWII Lucky label was devoted to jazz music, being marketed exclusively to U.S. citizens residing in Japan. It folded in 1940, when the Japanese government made anything deemed to be of foreign influence illegal. Label scan courtesy of Canadian jazzologist and collector Dave Dixon.
