Corporate background:
The word ‘Kismet’ derives from
an Turkish-Arabic word to do with one’s fate or destiny.
The label was obviously aimed at an Islamic
segment of the American market.
|
Design: The
symbol of the crescent moon and star is also to be seen on the
flags of several Islamic countries (e.g. Turkey).
The old-fashioned design format of curving
label name and blobby-ended crescent-shaped border is more
typical of the 1920s (compare with Challenge, Clover), while
the mixing of completely disparate type styles for the
imprinting is typical of an even earlier era (e.g. Butterfly).
Also, the ‘One Step’ beneath
the song title refers to a dance style that was
‘basically a walk on each beat of the music,’ which
became popular just prior to WWI.
