Corporate background:
Making its first appearance in England
after World War I, Parlophone merged with Columbia in 1927.
It still survives as one of the original
founding companies of the EMI conglomerate.
|
Design:
According to UK music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt, Carl
Lindström used the 'libra' or 'pound sterling' sign at the
top for his personal logo.
The label name is contained within a
bulbous-shaped (and rather obscene-looking) cartouche.
The extreme left-leaning axis of the letter
'o' in the Parlophone name reveals the same kind of treatment
given to the Odeon logo
of the early 1920s.
