‘Alhambra’ is the name of a famous palace/castle in southern Spain, built during the period of Moorish occupation.

Label scan courtesy of UK collector Graham Farnell.
Design: The lettering of the label name (and the copyright notice around the outer edge) is a hybrid of pen-Gothic and incised Roman forms, which came to be used in Spain in the medieval era, and became known as ‘Rotunda’ (‘rounded’).

The upper line of the imprinting is set in a totally different style, an elegant Art Deco sans serif.

The illustration at the top shows ‘The Fountain of the Lions,’ a feature in the courtyard of the Alhambra (‘the red one,’ named for the reddish-colored stone in which it was built) palace, in Granada, Spain.
