The premier venue for Vancouver nightlife during the 1950s, the pseudo-grotto Cave featured stalactites hanging from the ceiling. The first Vancouver nightclub to be granted a liquor license, it closed down in 1981.

Design: The artwork seems to have been pasted together from repro proofs of 1940s-era letterpress fonts, including Cheltenham bold condensed (in the horseshoe-shaped banner); Kabel ‘Souvenir of” etc.), and Kaufmann Script (‘The Cave’ etc.), all of which were standard fare in commercial job-printing shops.

One of the few labels to show a portrait of the performing artist, who does not seem to have become world-famous, like others who have appeared at The Cave, such as singers Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett.
