Corporate background:
Thanks to Bertrand
Chaumelle for the following
info:
“Barclay was founded by
pianist-bandleader Eddie Barclay.
He recorded first for Columbia
(Pathé-Marconi), then started his own labels: Blue Star
(jazz), Classic and Riviera (dance).
“The 1700 series originated with
Riviera, then Barclay arrived and they kept it, with the new
label.
“The records were pressed by
Pathé-Marconi.”

and collector Bill Dean-Myatt.

Design: Several
aspects of 50s-era graphic design are here: bold, flat abstract
shapes, both rounded and angular; solid, reversed and screened
areas; dimensional shadowed lettering; stylized paper-cut-out
illustration; and a mix of centred and asymmetrical layout.
