Corporate background:
Formed in 1934, the Blackwoods were
appearing on an Iowa radio station in 1940.
In 1950 they moved to Memphis and began
appearing on TV.
Descendants of the group’s original
members continue the singing tradition today.
|
Design: "How
many people are in your quartet?"
"Quartet" singing referred to the
Southern Gospel style, not the number of people involved.
The Blackwoods, here overlapped by the five
lines of a music staff overlaid by a Bible cartouche, were a
big influence on Elvis Presley.
Rcordings such as this would likely have
been sold at live performance venues.
