Music entrepreneur Joe Davis, who launched
this label, also founded the Beacon label in
the early 1940s; the similarity of design treatment can easily
be seen.
He also had dealings with the Gennett
label, taking over their shellac ration during the war years;
the similarity of treatment can also be seen in the Gennett label.
Design: A
music staff floats like a delicate chiffon scarf around the
world, against a starry backdrop.
Bodoni Ultra, a ‘fat-face’ type
with exteme contrasts in its thick verticals and thin
horizontals, is not often seen on labels.
