Corporate background:
The Canadian Music Sales Corporation was
established in the late 1920s as a distribution subsidiary of
Warner Bros.
After the 1929 stock market crash the
company was taken over by a Toronto financier, William St.
Clair Low.
The company launched its own label,
Dominion, in 1950.

Design: The
label name arches in a slow curve across the top of the label,
superimposed over a rough outline of what was then referred to
as the Dominion of Canada. (provincial confederation took place
in 1867).
Its national commemorative day of
celebration, Dominion Day, was renamed Canada Day in 1982.
Below, three horizontal lines, reminiscent
of striping on cars of the period, are mirrored either side of
the label.
The thin weight of line is kept consistent
for everything except the label name.
