Corporate background:
Launched in 1950 as a subsidiary of King
Records, Federal had several major rhythm ‘n’ blues
and doo-wop hits with artists like Ivory Joe Hunter and James
Brown.
|
Design: The
tightly-orchestrated script, with its fine lines and elaborate
initials (used for the main line) is typical of many fonts
being produced by type-foundries in the mid-1950s.
The soothing colour combination and restful
design is more suited to classical music than doo-wop (compare
the design with the much trendier Gee label from the same time-frame).
