Corporate background:
Musicologist Bill
Dean-Myatt, an expert on Scottish
music, writes: “The recordings were made in Glasgow,
beginning in 1956. The labels were printed there and sent to
the pressing company (generally Levy Brothers’ Oriole
label) in London.
“The owner, Murdo Ferguson, never
kept any recording ledgers or paperwork; as soon as a record
had been pressed and sold he threw away the documentation.
“The ‘G’ prefix indicated
Gaelic language material (‘S’ indicated Scots
material).
“Your example was recorded between
March 1957 and August 1958.”
|
Design: A
rather thin, washed-out design, which might have taken greater
advantage of the rich heritage of Gaelic graphic imagery and
lettering, a hint of which can be seen in the 'Alba' logo
around the spindle-hole.
