Corporate background:
Ron Hall
(author of "The CHUM Chart Book") kindly supplied the
following info: “Phonodisc started operations in 1956 in
Toronto suburb of Scarborough. The main label was Regency (mainly an outlet for US releases in Canada, as
was the Delta label, also
pressed by Phonodisc).
“Regis, also pressed by Phonodisc,
ran from #101 to #188. The entire catalog was polka type
records and the label folded about 1961.”
|
Design: The
font used for the label name is a transitional version of
Gothic known as Rotunda, featuring Roman proportions and a
curved emphasis to the letters (rather than the usual
vertical).
It was developed in Spain, where the
Germanic spirit never took full root during the Gothic era.
