Corporate background:
Thanks to Matthew
Duncan of the U.K. for the
following updated info: “The Vik label was set up by RCA
Victor in 1956 and had a mixture of rockabilly, big band,
teen/pop and instrumental items issued in an existence of
around 3 years.
“Usually they turn up on 45 rpm, as
this was the standard format of the time - 78s and 45s were
issued in USA and Canada.
“Joe Clay, the Louisiana-born
rockabilly singer and drummer, made his classic recordings for
RCA and they issued their decided items on the Vik imprint.

“Vik was used as an 'opening' label
for up-and-coming artists considered too risky for the RCA main
series or for artists they had gained from other labels who had
perhaps already had their heyday and were no longer worthy of
heavy promotion by a major label who would rather concentrate
on their big-selling artists like Elvis Presley, Perry Como and
others who made RCA so much money in the 50s.
“The 78 pictured on your site,
‘Caravan,’ is from 1957.”
