Corporate background:
According to discographer Stephen C. Barr
(The Almost Complete 78 RPM Record Dating Guide), this
‘Origins of Jazz’ series was issued by Decca
between late 1951 and 1954.
The Vocalion name, launched in 1919 by a
manufacturer of player pianos, had been acquired by Brunswick
in the 1930s, and by Decca in 1943.
|
Design: The
well-known ‘square panel within a circle’ Vocalion
image (compare with the 1920s version),
with the outer spaces filled by filigree ornament, is now
modified, the square being enlarged and the decoration
simplified.
