Okeh Special Record

Okeh Special Record (U.S.A.) / 1952

back next

Design: The original Okeh script logo was updated when the company name was acquired by Columbia in the early 1940s.

History: Launched in 1918, the label used what has become the most universally recognized and widely used word in the English language. Originally scrawled on the sides of travel trunks approved for loading by a semi-literate porter, the letters 'OK' representing the words 'all correct,' or, according to his spelling, "orl k'rect." Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany.
